THE PASCALIAN VOID
Many academics, having jettisoned an objective faith fill the void with fantasy...in many cases the climate change faith which is in fact a pantheistic faith in Gaia (Gnostic) or a belief in a Utopian future if only we can change the social/societal structures of our culture; aka Socialism/Marxism.
Both are absolutist and have extreme consequences.
