This is aptly illustrative of the 'seeming rather than doing' philosophy behind so many moral poseurs.
Fitzroy is a “progressive” area, filled with people with a “social
conscience” particularly when it comes to the environment. Its council reflects
this, comprising three Greens, one socialist, three Labor members and two
independents. Fitzroy’s federal member is Adam Bandt, the sole Green in the
House of Representatives.
And when 15,000 people in one of the country’s most progressive and green
areas hold a party in the local Edinburgh Gardens, they naturally
leave the park looking like this:
Rubbish is for Big Government to pick up.
